 Warner Nickerson is like no ski racer we've ever met.  An enormous late-blooming talent, the "system just doesn't no what to do with him.  US racing is geared to grabbing talent early and plugging them into the combine.  No college years to develope skills, size and perspective... just throw them into the mix.  We could debate all day about that.

 Warner Nickerson went to Colby College in Maine, graduating in 2005.  His skills advanced exponentially during those years, where he was a two time All American and won two silver medals at the World University games.  He also was fourth at the US National Championships (against the entire US Team) and missed the podium and a Team slot by .18 seconds.  In 2006, with World GS rankings of 100 and 102 (just two rankings from funded Team criteria) he was named an unfunded member of the USST "B" team.  The year went well until he was injured in late January.  He struggled to compete through injury, then the team dropped him like a hot potato despite a 5th place at US Nationals. 

 He's since taken four US Nationals Podiums, but with age comes higher ascension criteria  which are virtually unatainable unless one is already on the World Cup circuit.  He spanked the entire US Ski Team at races in New Zealand this Autumn and lowed his Giant Slalom FIS points to 6.  The US Team grudgingly gave him a World Cup start in Solden last month after all the blogs were referring to him as the fastest man not on the Cup circuit.
